Personality & Traits

General Overview T'Nel Antilles is a generally mild-mannered and pleasant female to have around, she is a Vulcan woman first and foremost so she tries to be logical at all times, however in order to better interact with others, she feels emotions as they do which has caused her issues with other Vulcans at times. However, she has been declared as 'one without logic' and the Vulcan authorities has censured her husband from ever practicing on Vulcans and from ever visiting Vulcan itself. His response was predictable. When Vulcan protested his response, Starfleet agreed with Antilles.

Personal History T'Nel born in the city of Raal on Vulcan. Her birth was on December 29th, 2339. Her parents were both members of the Vulcan aristocracy. What did not help was that T'Nel was the youngest of two children and as such, she was often overlooked as her parents sunk all of their efforts into the upbringing of their eldest daughter, this meant that T'Nel often had to work much harder, she was often overlooked even if she got top marks whereas her elder sister was praised even if she got a failing grade. What this meant was that T'Isiln turned into an outright snob, even by Vulcan standards.

The rift between T'Nel and her family members grew as T'Nel grew from a young child into a teenager. She began expanding her insights into knowledge that was welcomed by her parents and in some cases were even encouraged but since she had been ignored for so long,m she had become very self-reliant upon herself and nobody else. She began to refuse to consider that her parents or sibling were right about anything and when she was fifteen, the rift between herself and her family became an unbridgeable chasm when her sibling announced her intention to join the Vulcan science academy but her grades were pathetic in most respects.

T'Nel quietly wished to join Starfleet rather than have to follow after her sibling and thus, be forced to clean up T'Isilin. However, her efforts to keep this infomation quiet was foiled when her sibling revealed T'Nel's intentions to join Starfleet. Her parents were very strongly against it and yet. T'Nel refused to even budge from her position of going to join Starfleet.

Needless to say, the fallout was sudden, swift and dramatic. This produced a rift between the sisters that would never heal as T'Nel considered her sibling as a spoilt child, a product of her parent's failings rather than her own successes.

T'Nel nad wanted to break off the betrothal to a man she did not know, all so her family could gain property and material wealth. Both of which were pointless in the modern-day and age. T'Nel's would-be suitor refused to release her and thus, she was forced to fight for it, even though the village priest said she was to be released. T'Nel won her freedom in the Koon-ut-kal-if-fee challenge, she defeated him without killing him.

One result of all of this was that T'Nel decided she needed to leave Vulcan for a time, while she was off-world, she went through the pon far, her first and she was able to sate her concerns with the assistance of a male prostitute whose services she had arranged for the evening.

However, when she returned home to collect the things she would need for her time at the academy, her parents made their displeasure with their eldest daughter known publicly. T'Nel called it another one of Vulcan's endless dichotomy.

When T'Nel went to the academy, her troubles didn't end as her sister had spoken with several Vulcan prospective cadets and she informed them that as T'Nel was a member of the old Vulcan nobility that she was acting without logic and she should be persuaded to return home. Some disagreed but others accepted the argument.

However, things were starting to turn around for T'Nel. Within weeks of her arrival at the academy, she had met a man named John Antilles, who was unusually disciplined with a mental maturity unseen for most his age and the two formed a quiet friendship while working together on various class assignments and projects. In T'Nel's own words. "John was a very emotionally controlled and stable human, he was practical and he was patient. It was a really nice change of pace that I was not used to." The praise is telling.

Their next trial was the incident on Mars. as T'Nel and John were both on a cadet exercise and the two got separated thanks to the team leader screwing up. The caves of Mars contained new threats and unexpected threats. What was worse was the team leader got lost. John and T'Nel lost sight and contact with him before he was picked up, but he decided to not inform anyone that John and T'Nel were out there alone. Everyone else was recovered over a four hour period but T'Nel and John were both unaccounted for.

It would take Starfleet five days to locate John and T'Nel. The two were found asleep together, sharing one sleeping bag to conserve body heat. Starfleet rushed them to the medical facility but the seeds of our relationship had been laid. The two began to enjoy spending time together and when we were reunited with our squad leader. T'Nel smashed his face in for the near-death experience. John however decided not to do anything, letting the irate Vulcan handle the matter at hand. Citing the need to show a measure of restraint on the matter.

Within two months. John and T'Nel were married and upon word of this reaching her family, they refused to attend her wedding so John brought in all of his relatives. In their mutual outrage over her treatment at the hands of her own family, she became an Antilles, even if she and John were parted by death or worse, she would always be welcome in the family. It was something T'Nel had never known before, acceptance was a foreign feeling to her but over time, John and his family were able to make her welcome as part of his family.

T'Nel's final downfall came because of her willingness to use emotions as part of her everyday life, rather than just in private. She believed that the key to knowledge was emotion and logic together, in perfect balance rather than logic alone. Citing that logic alone was downright unnatural. When word of this reached her family on Vulcan. She was banished, never to return. John Antilles was well and truly outraged and so was Starfleet, they had tired of this endless drama and thus, sided with John and T'Nel.

John's parents became her parents, his siblings became hers and they all accepted her without question reservation or hesitation. Their mutual outrage was telling, even though she had come to accept it long ago. Within a year, their first child came along. A boy they named Daniel and by the time that both John and T'Nel had graduated and was finished with her first assignment, their family would be rounded out with their fourth child.

T'Nel opted to keep the children with her rather than leave them with their father as the two were still having issues with other Vulcan's and their scorn of T'Nel because of her various choices. John needed time and space to do his residency and he would not be able to raise his children effectively so T'Nel would raise them alone, among all human crews on Starfleet vessels or as far away from Vulcan as she could arrange.

T'Nel's rise up the ranks was a little on the slow side of things but her skills and the worth was never in question, she fought the Borg during the second Borg attack on Earth in late 2372, she fought the Klingons during the short war with them in 2373 and then she fought the Cardassians, Dominion and later the Breen during the Dominion War.

T'Nel would end up commanding not one but two ships as she prefered to be out in the field rather than stuck on a Starbase and now that she commands the USS Massachusets, she aims to continue doing just that.
