| Personal History | Todd Sims was born in 2350 and while his childhood on Terra Nova, humans had resettled the planet long ago after the humans were able to sort out their relations with the lost people who became a race unto themselves. His childhood was a rich and happy one and when he came of age, he joined Starfleet. He went off to the academy that was located here on Tera Nova in 2366, he was part of the tactical class that earned the Grankite Order of Tactics, his time at the academy was uneventful and he graduated on the eve of the Dominion war with honors. His first posting was to the USS Thunder as one of their relief tactical officers, he was eager to put his skills to work and within weeks, he would get the chances he wanted as the Thunder went into battle against the Cardassian Galor class Cruiser 'Morhant' in which Todd was able to knock out her shields using an inverse tachyon surge which forced the Cruiser to reset her shields, during which time Todd beamed several torpedoes into the Cardassian ship, utterly shredding her. It was one of the tactics developed for use against the Borg and it worked, but it was used to decapitate an enemy force, thus it silenced the critics and became known as the Jaroc decap tactic, in honor of the man that Sims said came up with it, even though it was Todd himself who thought the idea up. Captain Ronaldson saw through it however and he simply awarded Sims with a commendation and a medal for gallantry under fire, the rest of his tour on the Thunder was relatively uneventful before he was promoted and then reassigned to the USS Chicago, one of the newer Galaxy Class ships which were unfinished because of the threat of war, she was deployed along the Klingon boarder because the alliance between the Federation and the Klingons was terminated at the behest of Gowron. It was here that his tactics and tolerance would be tested to its very limits. During the battle of Archanis hen the Klingons first invaded the system itself, the USS Chicago and three destroyers were present in the system, the Federation forces rallied and were able to destroy ten Klingon ships of various types before being driven off he battlefield, losing one Sabre class ship in the process. Todd would spend all his time aboard the Chicago fighting the Klingons, earning their respect as well as their contempt, it was something that suited him fine because they had taken note of him, he had been forced to take command of the USS Chicago thanks to a reckless Klingon force attempting to board and capture her, Todd simply had the Klingons beamed out into space without regard for who he was killing, then in an act of pure unmitigated savagery, he then turned his ships guns on a crippled Vorcha class cruiser the Chicago had damaged earlier and he demolished him. then he went after the other Klingons, destroying them all one at a time with concentrated volleys of weapons fire, nearly exhausting all of his torpedoes in the process. By the time the relief Klingon force arrived, with a Negh'Var class ship leading them. Todd had managed to destroy almost twenty Klingon ships along with four Klingon freighters in the process in what Starfleet textbooks later referred to as the Battle of Archanis Ursae. The General told Todd that he would stand down his troops as the battle had been fought well and that the empire would take note of Todd Sims as a worthy adversary. Sims was past caring but he wasn't foolish enough to carry on the battle with his damaged and exhausted force, so he ordered the six ships to evacuate the crews off of the three disabled ships before securing them for towing, before conceding the field to the Klingons. He felt like he was running but he was still doing the right thing. Todd would have nightmares about this battle that would haunt him for years, it also left him with a permanent hatred of all things Klingon, however soon eh would have a new enemy to fight but he was promoted and transferred across to the USS Oakland, a newly commissioned Nebula II class starship, this assignment would suite Todd Sims in more ways then one as it was here where he would meet the woman who would later become his wife. Marissa Cartwright was a security officer and the two worked quite closely together as he was known for his rather abusive tactics to the enemy and at times, to his own guys too but while he won battles, he knew he needed to tone it down. His assignment to the Oakland would see her fight the entire Dominion War, including some of the most brutal fights and come home alive, usually carrying hundreds of refugees from other ships that had been destroyed during the fight. While it tore at Todd to lose so many, he at least knew what he was fighting for and in the middle of the bloodshed and the dying of the war, he and Marissa Cartwright solidified their relationship by having it become serious, their first child would arrive after the Federation victory and the chaos of the Breen entering the war on the Dominion side. Within the first five years of their marriage, the would welcome four children and he would be reassigned to a small batle-group of Defiant class ships while she remained on the Oakland before she was assigned to the same Starbase that Todd was home-ported from, so their family could remain together. Todd remained here commanding this small battlegroup even after earning his promotion to Captain until his assignment ended and he was assigned to Starbase 73, Marissa followed him across so they could raise their family together. This lasted until he was assigned to Watchman station, she was now of command rank and she was assigned command of the USS Shimakaze, one of the new Merin class starships, built in massive numbers to replace the Miranda class starship which was now being phased out of service en mass. USS Shimakaze was slated to be added to Watchman's defense screen but has since been reassigned to the USS Roanoke's escorting screen. Todd didn't protest as he knew that Roanoke was home-ported from Watchman itself. While assigned to Watchman, he has two small ships and one cruiser to augment his command, the Cruiser he requested was an old friend, the USS Oakland which went in for a refit as soon as he got a hold of her, the USS Boston and the USS Belknap could handle things until then. In Eartly 2392, Todd was promoted to commodore and ressigned as first officer of the USS Valhalla, the first ship of this class of ships which were among the largest ships starfleet would ever build. His assignment here has been fasinating as well as highly educational for him. |
