| General Overview | Daniel MacRae is a generally patient and happy man, which is somewhat surprising considering the abuse he suffered in 2371 at the hands of several Cardassians while imprisoned in a labor camp for prisoners of the state who didn't warrant a death sentence. He has no memory of what happened considering the trauma he suffered at the time. Daniel is also of a forgiving nature as he doesn't hold grudges, even to those who rightly deserve them. | |

Weaknesses: He has memory issues thanks to his time in Cardassian captivity, he would like to remember what happened but he can't as the memories have simply been destroyed due to the savage beatings he endured at the hands of his captors. |

| Personal History | Daniel MacRae was born in 2343 as the youngest of four children, his older brothers and sister all took their time looking after the baby of the family, they were in order from eldest to youngest was William then Holly then Robert then down to Daniel himself. His siblings were older than him by twelve years, eleven years and eight years so they had quite a lot to teach Daniel. He along with his siblings grew up on the water-rich world of Alpha Centauri IV, a world of shallow oceans and tropical beaches. the planet was lush and pristine. His childhood was a rich and happy one as his siblings generally looked after him and protected him but they also taught him how to defend himself and how to look after himself. Daniel chose computer sciences and Operations to go into as a career field while growing up as he had a rather unusual gift to fix anything he came across so rather than go to starfleet academy, he went off to Alpha Centauri University and began chasing three Masters degrees. One in Engineering and two in computer sciences. At age 23 with those in hand, he applied to join Starfleet and he was able to go through the academy learning most of what he needed rather then all the extra junk he didn't need, he graduated with honors and was commissioned as an ensign before being sent to his first assignment, the USS Infinity, an older Akira class starship under the command of Captain Martz. His first assignment was noteworthy as he led an away team that saved two dozen civilians from a damaged freighter, that was unfortunately lost because the magnetic interlocks couldn't be reinitialized in time. He got a commendation for his efforts but he simply ran out of time. Daniel showed that he could work under pressure as the Federation began to really ramp up its war preparations against the Dominion and the Borg, he was offered a posting to the Utopia Planitia Fleetyards to assist with their research and development but instead he choise an assignment that would change his fate and his destiny. He went undercover to find out where the supplies for the Maquis were coming from but ultimately the cell he was a part of had to fight its way out of a Cardassian ambush and he along with two others were captured. Daniel was willful and a prideful man, this was to lead to numerous beatings at the hands of the camp guards while he got to know the other inmates at the camp, including a Lieutenant April Yamaguchi, at first he assumed that she was a weapons smuggler but he quickly realized that she was starfleet much like he himself was. MacRae and Yamaguchi began spending what time they could together, to help her bear the abuse as she found solace in his arms and he gave her twins though she didn't know they were his and he was murdered not two days later, but she never even knew his name as she didn't have the heart to find out... the CO of the Cardassian guards realized that someone else was seeing his prized toy and so he was the one who murdered the officer April was with, right before her eyes, his blood splatted across her, it was meant as a gesture of cruelty and the message was 'you are MINE!'. MacRae was quickly disposed of as a Maquis cell attacked the camp and liberated thirty-something prisoners but they missed over two hundred or so. McKnight's body was recovered in the melee and while he would recover. His recovery was long and arduous. He would suffer considerable trauma from his wounds, both physical and mental. It was a Cardassian woman along with a few Cardassian medics who tended to him and helped him regain his strength but before he up was up on his feet again, the Dominion arrived on the scene with their usual shock and awe tactics. Within weeks the new Dominion fleet went through the DMZ killing every single person they could find who was not Cardassian, millions perished and it didn't stop there as the Cardassians simply glassed over a dozen Federation worlds but Starfleet, realizing that they had erred could do nothing as their was preparations were not completed. MacRae was handed over to Federation custody along with several hundred thousand refugees who had fought and failed to defend their homes. MacRae ended up in intensive care on Wolf 359's colony of Stapelton Center. It was quickly determined that Daniel MacRae was starfleet and that he wanted to fight in the war to come but the regulations said he needed to pass various physical tests, he decided to simply turn in his commission and fight as an enlisted man. So off he went to the USS Pel-Gaash as an enlisted operations specialist. Thanks to the trauma he sustained, it destroyed all of his memories so he doesn't even remember the assignment or anything about it, this also included April Yamaguchi and the promise he made to her however April could be argued was crazed by what she endured. MacRae for his part simply carry on with life as he went into the Dominion War, guns blazing. From first shot to last, he endured throughout the war, it was also here that he met someone, a woman named Korelii Unal, their relationship started gentle and slowly because of the war but it quickly deepened after the battle of Andoria in which a dozen Federation ships were damaged and another dozen or so were destroyed, the Dominion effort to conquer Andoria was a failed effort and cost them several times what the Federation lost thanks in part to Andorian's orbital defense network. Korelii and Daniel hit it off quickly but they kept their friendship as low key as possible, citing the regs that prevented fraternization between officers and enlisted but this ended three months later when McKnight transferred into Engineering and Korelli was promoted to second officer of the USS Benton. Over time Korelii came to realize that she was growing tired of the rules so she discussed the matter with Captain Ross who was more then willing to be reasonable on the matter, he cited that since she and McKnight were not in the same department that it wasn't really a concern. So with that last issue removed Korelii decided to pursue the relationship further. MacRae for his part was not going to object on the matter as he returned her attention with his own. A month later, Korelii came to Daniel and she informed him that she was pregnant so over dinner in the lounge he proposed to her, while she accepted the crowd in the lounge went crazy with the good news. Their joy was increased when she learned she was pregnant with twins, she welcomed first, a twin boy and girl and then in quick succession, she produced two single children and then another set of twins before calling it there, she now had six children with her husband who by this time had followed her to their next assignment. The Steamrunner class USS Persepolis where Korelii served three years as Exec before the posting of Executive officer on the USS Frontiersman became available. MacRae went over as a computer specialist. It was here that Daniel learned about what had happened with April Yamaguchi's children and while he wasn't sure of how to help her, he also knew that he had other priorities at present. When he was offered the posting, he accepted without question so when Korelii then moved her family over to her new assignment and within a year, she was the new commanding officer of the Frontiersman before she left on a eight year mission into the Gamma Quadrant, alone and with a full crew compliment before returning to find a Federation changed by the Hobus events. After returning her ship was brought in to be refitted and re-loaded with supplies for the Romulan relief efforts but these hopes were quickly dashed by the wholesale havoc brought by the Narada, the near destruction of the Enterprise-E and the loss of a fleet of Klingon ships, almost all at the same time. MacRae left the matters of what was going on to his wife but he assisted her as best he could. The USS Frontiersman delivered her supplies are ordered to the Romulan colony of Archener prime, before she was ordered to meet up with a Starfleet battlegroup that was getting to set to take on the Narada when she disappeared, Ambassador Spock also disappeared around the same time and place so the ships assigned went in search of both, only to turn up nothing other than temporal readings and unusual gravimetric readings. Korelii and her crew were assigned to an exploration mission out in the Gum Nebula that would last three years and so after loading new personnel, equipment and supplies, off she and her crew went, throughout the rest of the twenty-three eighties and early nineties they were away from home as their ship blazed new paths through space, doing what all good starfleet crews seek to do. However, it all ended in early 2391, with the USS Frontiersman being crippled in an attack by several 'cozmozoan's.', the ship's shields collapsed almost instantly with two of them beginning to 'eat' into the saucer section. Phasers seemed to only feed them more energy so Korelii and her crew used the main deflector to set to an inverse graviton pulse to drive off the spaceborne lifeforms, shattering two of them and wounding the third who fell while fleeing to a group of armoured spaceborne jelly's. The encounter was something of a victory for the Frontiersman and her crew, all of whom survived the assault but the damage was extensive, warranting the return of the ship and crew to Starbase One Eighty-Five, also to make matters worse the damage was to both the saucer and the stardrive sections. Korelii's worst fears were confirmed when she was told her ship would have to be scrapped, she was too badly damaged and she wasn't keeping pace with the new Andromeda variant of the Galaxy-class now entering service. Korelii's crew was scattered to the astral winds while command deliberated on what to do with her, after six months leave she was given a choice of three assignments, accept a promotion to Commodore and take over commanding a battlegroup, take over command of Starbase Sixty Three or accept command of the USS Hermes, the last was one of the new Champion class ships that was still undergoing construction, the ship would be ready in three months time for shaking down and the like. Korelii settled on commanding the USS Hermes with a temporary assignment teaching a tactical class at the academy on Alpha Centauri. MacRae went with her as he was almost ruthlessly determined not to leave her side. So he accepted a teaching job at the academy, the same as his wife did. MacRae and his family were settled into the orbital Starbase over Alpha Centauri and it was here where he began teaching while waiting for her next assignment to be completed. When the Hermes was commissioned and Korelli went off to command her, she took all six of their children with her. Daniel for his part was assigned to the USS Courageous he remained until the ship's destruction at the hands of the Klingons. After the destruction of the USS Courageous in battle, MacRae was reassigned over to the USS Hermes as their new chief science officer, he knew it would be good to serve with his wife beside him again so he welcomed the new assignment greatly. However he was also persuaded to take a commission rather than remain as an enlisted man, he was a senior officer and a department head so he needed to lead by example. To that end, MacRae was granted the rank of Lt Commander. |
